TExES Texas Examinations of Educators Standards

To acquire teacher certification in Texas, candidates must perform satisfactorily on comprehensive examinations. The ensure teacher certification in Texas, the following programs were developed.

 

TExES and ExCET

The Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) and the Examination for the Certification of Educators in Texas (ExCET) are criterion-referenced examinations designed to measure a candidate's knowledge in relation to an established criterion rather than to the performance of other candidates. The TExES Educator Standards, based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), form the foundation for the TExES tests.

 

TExMAT

Texas Examinations for Master Teachers consists of four categories of Master Teacher Certificates: 1) Master Reading Teacher (MRT); 2) Master Mathematics Teachers (MMT); 3) Master Science Teacher (MST); and 4) Master Technology Teacher (MTT).

 

Other TExES teacher certification programs are: Texas Oral Proficiency (TOPT), Texas Assessment of Sign Communication (TASC) and Texas Assessment of Sign Communication – American Sign Language (TASC-ASL).

Can I take TExES tests for teacher certification by computer?

Yes. This provides greater access to teacher certification tests in Texas and quicker score reporting. Note: computer-administered TExES tests are on a continuous basis. There are 24 TExES tests for teacher certification offered via computer with three more to come in early 2010. Scores for these TExES tests for teacher certification are reported within seven days of taking the teacher certification tests.

$120 test fee (per test)

$240 superintendent test

$35 late registration fee

$75 emergency registration fee
