The Cornell Method of Effective Note Taking

The Cornell Method is an effective format. Take a sheet of loose-leaf lined notebook paper and draw a line all the way down the paper about 1”–2” from the left-hand edge.Cornell_Method Draw another line across the width of the paper about 1”–2” up from the bottom. Repeat this process on the reverse side of the page. Look at the highly effective result. You have ample room for notes, a left-hand margin for special emphasis items or inserting supplementary data from the textbook, a large area at the bottom for a brief summary, and a little rectangular space for just about anything you want. Study Schedule: When to start studying!

When to start studying! It’s easy. Begin at the beginning. Our informal polls show that most people begin studying up to 8 weeks prior to the test date, so start early. Then ask yourself some questions: How much do you really know? Are you coming to the test straight from your teacher-education program or are you having to review subjects you haven’t considered in 10 years? Are you prepared? Is this the path you want to take? Either way, take a diagnostic or assessment test first. Also, spend time on sample tests so that you become accustomed to the way the actual test will appear. Read more.
